Antarctica is very, very cold and isolated from everything and everyone. But, despite its isolation and hostile environment, the White Continent is full of live. Before every excursion, the expedition leaders told us to be at least 5 meters from the penguins and 10 from seals, but it is hard to keep the distance when there’s a penguin colony on land or when the sea drove us closer to an iceberg with a tenant. Antarctica’s inhabitants include the Crabeater and Leopard seals, Adélie and Gentoo penguins, whales, birds and about 100 species of plants.
